Tuesday, April 11, 2023 –Azimio la Umoja politicians have indicated their unwillingness to sit down with the selected Bipartisan team from the government side.
Led by Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi, the opposition leaders have wondered why President William Ruto decided to choose on one of their members from Azimio.
Wandayi openly faulted the Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group resolution which picked on Eldas Member of Parliament Adan Keynan Wehliye, a member of the Jubilee Party.
“We are totally surprised and stunned by the fact that they have appointed Hon. Adan Keynan who is a member of the Azimio la Umoja Coalition,” MP Wandayi stated.
Mr. Keynan switched camps immediately after President William Ruto won power in the August 9 polls.
Kenya Kwanza also appointed Senator Boni Khalwale to chair the government bipartisan group that has seven members.
In the group unveiled by President Ruto today April 11, other six members listed include Eldas Member of Parliament Adan Keynan, Tharaka MP George Murugara, nominated Senator Esther Okenyuri and Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse.
Additionally, Ruto named current Taita Taveta Woman Representative Lydia Haika and Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei to be part of the talks.
Speaking in Nairobi today, Ruto’s faction promised to make the talks a success and urged the other side from the opposition to emulate the same spirit.
“We are not refusing to take advice but we find it difficult to take advice from the very people that put us in the mess we are in today. We have directed our nominated team to adhere strictly to the Constitution,” Senator Aaron Cheruiyot stated.
He added that they will resist any attempts by the opposition to force or blackmail the government into implementing failed policies of the last regime.
