Saturday, August 19, 2023 –Former Defense Cabinet Secretary now DAP-Kenya Party leader Eugene Wamalwa has castigated the American Ambassador Meg Whitman over her sentiments during the devolution conference.

The Azimio co-principal with colleagues continued to intensify pressure as plans to see the U.S diplomat recalled rages on.

Speaking in Kisii at a funeral event on Friday, August 18, Wamalwa said the opposition is trying to see if it can meet with Delaware Senator Chris Coons who is around and discuss with him the conduct of their Ambassador in Kenya.

Mr. Wamalwa claimed that Ms Whitman, has and still speaks like United Democratic Alliance UDA Party spokes lady. And for that reason, they want Senator Coons to relay their displeasure to President Joe Biden.

In support of Odinga’s position on the matter, the DAP-Kenya Party leader said all diplomats should be neutral and impartial on local matters.

He therefore said, with Ambassador Whitman, she had openly taken positions in Kenyan politics and governance issues; something that could create further divisions in the country.

He added that the U.S diplomat had decided to demonstrate an unusual dalliance with the Kenya Kwanza government for reason well-known to her.

“We know that the Senator is in Town and he is also Biden’s senator. If it was our wish, we would have sent him back with Meg but we are sending him with the message that we are not happy with the ambassador,” Wamalwa stated.

Wamalwa noted that allowing Whitman to continue staying around will not only create tension but also increased political divisions amid bipartisan talks.

The ex-CS urged foreign powers to stay away from the ongoing bipartisan talks between the opposition and the government side.

“We want to discuss them as Kenyans and IEBC is one of the issues. She thinks that the elections were credible. That was in her eyes and that of UDA. But as Azimio, we see that they were not free and fair,” he added.

During last year’s’ general elections, the opposition accused the American diplomat of issuing  what they termed as ‘an unnecessary travel alerts’ on Kisumu City.
