Friday, April 14, 2023 -Opposition leader Raila Odinga has written to the Hague-based International Criminal Court ICC requesting its officers to visit Kenya.
His long time lawyer Paul Mwangi, in the letter, details that President William Ruto’s government has been unfair in dealing with their supporters in Nairobi and around the country.
Mwangi further argues that the Police outlawed their lawful protests with reasons of visiting terror on their loyal supporters.
The letter goes on to detail how the police, under express command of Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome, long plotted to harm peaceful protesters, at all cost.
“The squads are reported to be dressed in plain clothes to operate outside the normal command structure and to take direction directly from select commanders appointed for that purpose by Japheth Koome,” the letter read in part.
Mr. Odinga who has since announced the return of protests after Ramadan has, therefore, called upon the ICC investigators to start monitoring the current regime closely and penalise it for both damages and lives lost.
Meanwhile, President William Ruto has responded to the threats by urging Odinga to consider scheduled bipartisan talks by the Parliament.
