Thursday, November 2, 2023 –Azimio leaders have come out to defend Raila Odinga’s visit to the Statehouse yesterday during King Charles tour.
Raila Odinga was seen freely mingling and enjoying a State Banquet in honour of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla at the Statehouse with top leaders in government and from the United Kingdom U.K.
Though rumour would emerge that he had been officially invited by the President William Ruto to attend the important historic event, a section of his(Odinga) ally now say he was there under the invitation of King Charles III.
Speaking this on Citizen Tv on Thursday November 2, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has heavily criticized Kenya Kwanza for claiming that Odinga was excited with the Ruto’s invitation. Osotsi has firmly stated that his party leader was in the Statehouse courtesy of an invitation extended to him by the U.K Royal family.
He added that Odinga’s long standing friendship with the Royal family saw Ambassador to UK in Kenya officially pay a visit to Odinga and invite him to the event.
“Baba Raila Odinga wasn’t in State House courtesy of President Ruto’s invite; he was there as a friend of the Royal family. Kenya Kwanza should not be excited because Statehouse is neither UDA’s office nor Ruto’s home; it’s the property of all Kenyans,” Senator Osotsi made the remarks on Citizen Tv.
The Senator added that Raila was visited by Ambassador Neil Wigan on October 12 and that is the time when the ambassador officially invited him to meet King.
“Not UDA, Raila was there as a guest of the King and leader of opposition in Kenya as well as friend of Royal family.
“Unnecessary excitement by UDA may cloud down visit by the King. Ignore them,” he said further.
Mbeere Member of Parliament MP Geoffrey Ruku corroborated the remarks by MP Osotsi saying Raila was at the Statehouse because of King Charles as there is a lot of back-office preparations where the visiting guest plans who will be there and who will not; something not known to the public.
“Raila Odinga might have been invited to State House by the British High Commissioner to Kenya and not President Ruto for a State Banquet hosted in honour of King Charles III,” he noted.
Also present on Citizen Tv Day Break show hosted by Trevor Ombija was Joe Nyutu – Senator, Murang’a – who delved into Why King Charles III could not give a direct apology for colonial atrocities but, instead, chose to acknowledge its impact to the lives in Kenya.
