Tuesday, May 30, 2023 –Azimio la Umoja wing has replaced Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege with Embakasi West MP Hon. Mark Mwenje.
Making this confirmation today Tuesday May 30 afternnon, Azimio leadership said, this move was inevitable following the fact that Ms Chege has since switched loyalty to the ruling party side.
In a statement seen by this writer, Orange Democratic Movement wrote that the Parliamentary Group PG meeting held today May 30 had resolved that Chege be replaced from her current position as the Minority Deputy Whip, immediately.
“Azimio PG resolves to have Embakasi West MP Hon. Mark Mwenje replace Nominated MP Hon. Sabina Chege as the Minority Deputy Whip. Hon. Sabina has since shifted her allegiance to UDA,” partly read the statement.
The group also resolved to keep the Bipartisan talks suspended citing unresolved interim agenda on the table.
“We suspend the joint bipartisan talks until Kenya Kwanza withdraws the punitive Finance Bill 2023. We, therefore, oppose the burden being imposed on working people,” Opiyo Wandayi read the statement.
The leaders also agreed to pile pressure on the William Ruto’s government to suspend the Finance Bill 2023 which they claim was introduced in a manner that has not resonated well with the masses.
“The Finance Bill as presently drafted MUST be withdrawn in totality… and be re-introduced in a manner that resonates with the plight of the suffering Kenyans,” partly read the statement too.
Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta was a no-show at the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance coalition party Parliamentary Group meeting.
The former head of State was expected at the meeting held at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation but would rather choose to be represented by former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni.
On May 23, Bipartisan team member also Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna announced suspension of talks citing lack of seriousness from the government side.
But yesterday Monday May 29, co-chair in the talks, George Murugara asked the opposition wing to rejoin the discussion table saying they had considered agreeing with sections of the Azimio demands among them halting IEBC recruitment exercise.
