Sunday, January 29, 2023 –Police started arresting Azimio la Umoja supporters who were heading to Jacaranda Grounds for the ‘No Handshake’ rally organized by Azimio bigwigs.
In an early morning update by Azimio-allied Member of County Assembly MCA Robert Alai, police who had been deployed along the city roads heading to the venue, started harassing and arresting some of the supporters in a scheme to reduce crowd at the rally.
“Police officers arresting supporters of Azimio at Lady Northey,” he updated.
And according to the report by the Star, dozens of police officers and anti-protest unit had been mobilized to enforce security at the Azimio anti-government rally.
Speaking over the matter, Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said his team had met with organizers of the event and agreed on various modalities to ensure it starts and ends well.
“No one wants chaos. We are here for all,” Bungei said.
Furthermore, he revealed that some of the officers had been deployed to ensure the Sunday Mashemeji derby (Gor Mahia Vs AFC Leopards) goes on well at Nyayo Stadium.
Odinga, Martha Karua, and Kalonzo Musyoka have a mega rally at the Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi; this being part of their new efforts to reclaim their ‘stolen’ victory.
Odinga has maintained that President William Ruto was declared president through dubious means by merchants of impunity.
He therefore urged his supporters never to recognize the current regime until it resigns and paves way for the rightful Statehouse tenant.
The trio of Odinga, Karua and Musyoka believes they won the August 9 election with a whopping 8.1 votes against Ruto’s 5.9 votes.
