Friday, July 7, 2023 –Mombasa County for the first experienced chaotic scenes of running battles between the police and protesters.
This is after Azimio la Umoja leaders announced the commencement of countrywide protests christened Saba Saba Movement to culminate at Kamukunji Grounds.
Raila Odinga’s-led Azimio has today Friday July 7 started what it calls a final revolution dubbed the Saba Saba to force the regime to lower the ever-skyrocketing cost of living through punitive taxes.
Police officers across the rest of the country, decided to employ tear gas to disperse opposition protestors today.
Miles away in Kisii and Nyamira counties, protesters lit bonfires rendering the Kisii-Kilgoris highway impassable.
And in another similar update made by Kenya Human Rights Commission KHRC today noon, police decided to show their unique approach to addressing the anti-State protests by arresting a section of the team.
“Our plea for affordable living costs—by disrupting a peaceful protest with the ultimate combo of arrests and tear gas. Our determination is unshakeable and rivals even the most stubborn police tactics, KHRC,” KHRC released a statement.
Reacting on the unfolding, outspoken Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei asked law enforcers in Nairobi to use force in dealing with acts of hooliganism pointing out how Thika Road had been vandalized by sections of demonstrators.
Police boss Adamson Bungei has already warned Raila Odinga’s brigade against stepping their foot in the CBD. He however, allowed them to hold their rally at Kamukunji Grounds.
From morning today, hundreds of Azimio la Umoja supporters braved the rain as they headed to Kamukunji Grounds for the planned rally on Friday, July 7.
