Sunday, July 30, 2023 –Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Coalition Party has taken issue with the one-sided statement released by the Majority Leader in National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah on behalf of the Kenya Kwanza(KK) regime.
Reacting to countrywide condemnation of the dialogue document that has since gone viral, Azimio led by Martha Karua has indicated that the issues raised in the purported paper are not from Azimio and only signed by Kimani Ichung’wah.
“Any purported document that does not affirm adherence to the constitution and the rule of law cannot be good for Kenyans of whatever persuasion.
“It should be noted that Azimio is yet to table its substantive issues. The Coalition reiterates its foundational principles and values of always placing the interests of the people at the center of any political conversation. “As Azimio, we reaffirm that our four-point agenda remains the same; Cost of living, Electoral audit and reforms, non interference in coalitions and their constituent parties and finally accountability and probe into police brutality that has claimed dozens of innocent lives,” partly read the statement.
Ms Karua continued saying the Azimio side will not take responsibility of the paper in circulation until it is signed by both sides.
“Cognizant of the crisis of living bedeviling the nation with many Kenyans under the pump, our coalition cannot at the very least even countenance a conversation involving establishment of positions not contemplated by our constitution. “We owe it to Kenyans to engage honestly, transparently and guided by utmost good faith to find lasting solutions to the crisis in the country,” further read the statement from Azimio colaition.
This is after news emerged that Azimio coalition under the stewardship of Raila Odinga had agreed to be offered an opposition office fully funded by tax payers’ money.
The Ichung’wah-signed document also does not indicate issues of cost of living as usually preached by the opposition.
The statement coming hours after it was reported that President Ruto and Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga held secret talks in Mombasa on Friday night geared at striking a political truce between them
