Tuesday, August 8, 2023 –Azimio la Umoja leaders have agreed to start their Bipartisan talks at the Bomas of Kenya as proposed by the Government side.
Led by Raila Odinga, today Tuesday August 8, the camp acknowledged invitation by the Kimani Ichung’wah side to attend the Bomas of Kenya meetings scheduled to start tomorrow Wednesday so that to talk about the outstanding political and governance issues between them.
Hon. Raila who was reading the Azimio statement from Nairobi today Tuesday August 8, added that Bomas of Kenya is a respected venue in the Republic and, therefore, have no reason to turn down the proposal by Mr. Ichung’wah.
“Regarding the planned talks with Kenya Kwanza, we are ready to return to Bomas of Kenya. We regard Bomas as a sacred ground when it comes to reform, change and national healing,” Odinga read the statement in part.
He also confirmed that his team remains as earlier announced led by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and spokesman Opiyo Wandayi.
In his statement, Raila Odinga stated that, if Kenya was governed by the rule of law and had a caring government, the people who were holding peaceful protests would not have suffered that fate from the bullet.
Mr. Odinga was saying this flanked by Kalonzo Musyoka, former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Jeremiah Kioni among others.
Yesterday Monday August 7, Ichung’wah, while on a tour around Mt Kenya, asserted authority that any talks with the opposition must be people-centered.
“It is always about the people, and the people have emphatically ruled out any form of shady dealings and monkey business to undermine our democracy,” he said.
He added that cost of living remains a government prerogative not subject to talks and urged those in Azimio camp to keep off the matter.
Ichung’wah was supported by his boss William Ruto who charged that there will be no any form of Handshake despite allowing talks with the opposition.
