Babu Owino Charged With Two Counts

Thursday, July 20, 2023 –Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino is facing charges of unlawful assembly and subversion, in regard to his role in the ongoing opposition-led anti-government protests.

When presented at the Milimani Law Courts today Thursday July 20, the youthful Babu, real name Paul Ongili, was charged with the two counts.

His lawyer, Duncan Okoth, who spoke to news outlets today afternoon, confirmed that the MP, who was dramatically arrested a day ago at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport JKIA on his arrival from Mombasa, had finally been presented to the court.

“We actually went there (Wang’uru) yesterday and it was so bad, they could not allow anyone near the gate. They dispersed everyone including the lawyers.

“Instead of taking him to the law courts there they have actually brought him to Nairobi and at a speed of around 220km/hour,” Okatch earlier told Citizen Digital.

Babu, was on Tuesday night, arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport JKIA and taken to Wang’uru Police Station in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, where he is said to have spent the night.

His wife Faridah Ongili, would since yesterday protest his arrest asking both the Azimio la Umoja boss Raila Odinga and the government to quickly intervene.

She said his husband had committed no crime but adjudicating the rights of millions of Kenyans what cannot warrant his sudden disappearance.

Supporters would then today be seen storming the police station demanding for his immediate release what forced the police to move him to Nairobi Area Traffic Police Headquarters.
