Thursday, July 20, 2023 –Babu Owino’s family has come out to seek for help following the abduction of the MP by men believed to be police officers, yesterday Wednesday.
Fridah Ongili, wife to Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, has requested support from Kenyans to help locate her husband who was arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport JKIA yesterday on his arrival from Mombasa.
In a video she took in the evening yesterday Wednesday July 19, worried Faridah noted that her attempts to see her husband at a police station somewhere in Mwea bore no fruits.
“My husband has done nothing else but fight for the rights of Kenyans and there is absolutely nothing that he did to warrant the arrest.
“We are just asking to Azimio, Raila Odinga to do what you can to assist my husband. To the government, you are the one who is holding him illegally, there is absolutely nothing he has done,” she stated in a video seen Homenews.co.ke.
Faridah added that it is important as the wife to Ongili to be allowed to access him and give him food and any basic requirements.
“All I want is to see my husband, to give him food and medicine,” wife Faridah pleaded with the authorities.
MP Owino and eight others on Wednesday July 19 filed a case in court seeking to compel the police to be ordered to release them immediately and unconditionally.
Lawyer Danston Omari, argued that their rights of the nine persons, which include the right to peacefully demonstrate, freedom of movement, and to associate freely with others exercising their political rights, will continue to be violated if the police continue detaining them.
