Baringo MCAs regret rejecting BBI. Tender their apologies

Thursday, February 25, 2021 -Just a fortnight after shooting down the Building Bridges Initiative Bill on the grounds that it was not a good idea for their people, a section of Baringo MCAs have now apologized.

Leader of Minority Sam Lourien on Wednesday February 24 confessed that they were misled by a rival camp who asked them to reject the document for political reasons.

According to his Wednesday account of what actually transpired, the Tirioko MCA divulged that they acted out of influence from some politicians within Rift Valley and due to lack of enough knowledge they did what they did saying they are now sorry to both Mr. Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta. He also affirmed that the region is fully behind the BBI Draft Bill.

The Ward Representative went on to ask the two Handshake partners to forgive them for that single mistake because they are now keen to see the Bill bring change to the country.

“I want to apologise on behalf of MCAs who voted no. They did so out of ignorance. I want to ask Raila and President Uhuru to forgive us and continue with the ongoing road projects in the region,” he said.

The minority leader explained how the BBI Bill had been described to them as a means to fight the Deputy President through Senator Gideon Moi.

Baringo County Assembly was the first and the only county that voted against the Bill which has seen the country somewhat experience an early campaign mood.

So far over 37 County Assemblies have endorsed the Bill. This is way far above the required 24 counties mark threshold.
