Bars, Restaurants to Close at 11PM

Thursday, October 21, 2021 –Government has clarified that all bars should be shut by 11 PM every day following new directives the president issued during the just ended 58th Mashujaa Day celebrations held in Kirinyaga County.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe today Thursday October 21 contradicted police directive that bars must close at 7PM by saying the appropriate time should be 11PM.

“With the removal of the curfew, we are reverting to closing bars and restaurants at 11pm or the time allowed by licensing authorities,” Kagwe said during a live press conference in Nairobi.

On Wednesday, the National Police Service NPS had announced that measures on closure of bars by 7PM was still in force.

Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai announced this just hours after President Uhuru Kenyatta lifted the dusk-to-dawn curfew orders in his Mashujaa Day highly celebrated speech.

However, even as Kagwe issued fresh orders, he maintained that everyone must continue observing health precautions to control further spread of the deadly virus.

In the PERAK data seen by media houses, more than 15,000 bars and restaurants have since been shut own since the onset of the pandemic, rendering an estimated 90,000 workers jobless.
