Monday, June 19, 2023 –Jubilee Party rebel faction has been dealt a big blow after the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal PPDT, on Monday, June 19, overturned attempts to exit Azimio coalition as well as to hold their upcoming Delegates Conference.
Homenews.co.ke has learnt that the Tribunal, sitting in Nairobi, ordered the Kanini Kega-Chege-led group to not interfere with the smooth running of Jubilee until active cases still before it are concluded and determined.
“That pending the hearing and determination of the Complaint and Applications filed herein, inter partes, interim conservatory orders are hereby issued restraining all parties hereto and/or their representatives jointly and severally from issuing any communication and/or making any public representations on behalf of the Jubilee Party…,” the PPDT recommended.
On the same note, PPDT chairman, Desma Nungo, also issued conservatory orders staying the letter from the Registrar of Political Parties ORPP that recognised the ouster of Jeremiah Kioni and David Murathe as secretary general and vice chairperson, respectively.
In that line, Kega and Kioni were barred from representing Jubilee Party in a decision seemingly reached at to shield the tribunal from accusations of favouritsm.
“…and further staying communication dated June 6 and 13 issued by Kanini Kega (3rd respondent) and any other communication and/or decisions that may have been issued and/or taken by any of the parties hereto on behalf of Jubilee party during the pendency of these proceedings,” Nungo ruled.
This ruling now stops Chege from purporting to be the party boss at Jubilee amid intensified fight for power in the former ruling party.
It means, therefore that, former President Uhuru Kenyatta remains the leader of Jubilee which is a constituent party in Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition.
“Pending the Application inter partes hearing and determination, interim conservatory orders are hereby issued staying the Respondents’ decision embodied in the letter dated May 19, 2023,” PPDT partly added.
The matter was certified as urgent by the Tribunal Chairman who also ordered Mr. Kioni to serve the respondents, which included members of the Jubilee Party Disciplinary Committee and all Interested Parties, within three days.
Additionally, respondents were asked to file any response within the next five days.
