Monday, May 15, 2023 –New Life Prayer Center and Church founder Pastor Ezekiel Odero has been hit by a major blow after Mombasa High Court declined some of his key prayers.
Among the prayers he had presented through his lawyers include unfreezing of his bank accounts as well as reinstatement of his Tv channel license.
Judge Olga Sawe told the pastor’s lawyers that he is not the right person to handle the matter surrounding the two orders – on bank accounts as well as Tv station.
The judge, technically, clarified that whatever orders issued by Milimani Magistrate Court in Nairobi had weight and cannot be easily quashed from his desk.
The pastor was, therefore, advised by Judge Sawe to send his team of lawyers so that they can exhaust all the legal channels with the Communication Authority CA before coming to his court.
On Wednesday, May 3, Pastor Ezekiel moved to the High Court in Mombasa seeking conservatory orders to prevent the government from freezing over 15 personal and church bank accounts.
However, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions ODPP, on Thursday, May 11, 2023, opposed the prayers of reopening of the bank accounts belonging to the New Life Church, Kilifi County.
The prosecution argued that they were making significant progress in unravelling the truth surrounding under-dealings of the man of cloth.
Among other leads, they were looking into his mobile phone conversations, M-Pesa transactions and money transfer and transactions.
Pastor Ezekiel is being represented by Nairobi Lawyers Danstan Omari, Criminal Lawyer Cliff Ombeta among others.
The lawyers recently cried foul saying the freezing of the accounts had crippled activities at the church and the pastor was also unable to pay for legal services.
They termed this as baseless frustrations which they promised to challenge.
