Monday, June 26, 2023 –Members of Bodaboda association clashed infront of President William Ruto during their meeting held today Monday June 26.
This fallout played out when one Thomas Lesatin stood up to speak and, during his speech, he accused a section of colleagues for purporting to be the leaders of the bodaboda union when in real sense he is the elected chairperson.
The event was orgainsed at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre KICC and presided over by the head of State.
“The bodaboda leaders who were chosen by the previous administration that are here today are not bodaboda leaders. I am the national chairman of the Bodaboda Association of Kenya.
“Those who have spoken here are only doing so because they have cartels who are pushing for them to get close to you (Ruto),” Lesatin accused colleagues.
Before he finished addressing, a section of riders started heckling him; what forced him to cut short the speech until clam is restored.
The Master of Ceremony MC then walked to the podium to grab back the microphone as Lesatin went to sit down.
“Kindly settle down. Please just finish up your speech (to Lesatin),” he whispered to the association leader but the jeering went on for about a minute before he(Lesatin) came back to complete addressing the head of State.
President William Ruto used the event to promise them electric motorbikes for efficiency and high returns.
Ruto noted that he spent close to sh 250 million own money over the last 8-9 years fundraising for bodabodas across the country.
The President launched the Boda Boda Empowerment whose first phase will train atleast 200,000 riders drawn from all the 47 counties.
