Wednesday, February 15, 2023 –Members of Parliament differed with Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok who had come for interrogation, without required documents.
On Tuesday Friday 14, the County Public Accounts Committee PAC sitting in Parliament had be to adjourned after Barchok failed to show up with required books of accounts for scrutiny.
He had been summoned to appear before PAC as part of their oversight mandate to look into the expenditure of the county 2019/2020.
Sadly, the sitting had to be interrupted after the county boss failed to adhere to the rules of the game even as PAC Chairman Senator Moses Kajwang continued asking for appropriate records from Bomet County.
They Committee members maintained that it was disrespectful for the governor not to carry along the books for scrutiny.
They also wondered why he had not made them available to the Auditor General AG for stamping as it is required by law.
It saw the senators sitting in the committee push for the adjournment arguing that going on with the exercise would not yield any fruit.
Those who successfully pushed for the adjournment are Senators Richard Onyonka (Kisii), Samson Charargey (Nandi) and Fatuma Dullo (Isiolo).
Their Chairman Kajwang told the governor to respect the committee and come along with any required paperwork.
“This is not a Committee of stories. We, therefore, adjourn to allow the Governor to get the necessary documents which he must share with the office of the Auditor General,” he added.
A few kilometers away, their counterparts in the National Assembly of the Public Accounts Committee also held their committee sessions.
The MPs came up with a resolution that stern action should be meted upon government departments that don’t pay suppliers despite receiving disbursements from government.
