Saturday, August 27, 2022 –Finally, the police have opened up on the evidence gathered from the three suspect Venezuelans who were arrested on July 21 with election materials at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport JKIA.
On Friday August 26 evening, Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI office made a detailed presentation in response to Raila Odinga’s petition which required them to make public what they had found with the Venezuelans.
This information, is supposed to be used by petitioners – Raila and Karua – to argue their Supreme Court petition starting Monday.
Now, according to the evidence produced by detectives, the trio – Salvador Javier Suarez, Jose Castellano and Joel Garcia – had passwords for key electoral gadgets like the KIEMS kits and other deployments.
“It was established that the confiscated exhibits had substantial information held in the IEBC systems are in full control of foreign employees of M/S Smartmatic International Holdings B.V. and Seamless Limited who have been contracted by IEBC,” DCI disclosed.
The DCI has further detailed in their affidavit that Castellano could manipulate any information in the election systems, at will.
“Castellano was in a position to remotely access the entire IEBC data and has the capacity to add, delete, edit or manipulate in any manner the entire IEBC system,” partly read the same report.
In the DCI analysis, 21 individuals among them two Kenyans having full access to the election system were able to do anything and mess the entire process the way they wanted.

The police have also asked the Court to allow the entire IEBC system to be audited so that to know if there was any illegal penetration and by who exactly.
The arrest of the three Venezuelans saw IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati take issue with the office of the DCI saying it was hell-bent on intimidating their officers ahead of the election.
