Monday, May 16, 2022 –Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance leader Raila Amollo Odinga has finally named his running mate ahead of August 9 elections.
Making the much-awaited announcement at Kenyatta International Convention Center KICC Nairobi today Monday May 16, the former premier described his choice of Martha Wangare Karua as an iron lady whose political rise remains unmatched among other women in the country.
Odinga explained that Karua had for many years stood firm her ground in leadership and that she will do a good job in the capacity of the first female Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya.
Odinga noted that, with Ms Karua, the country will be in the safe pair of hands and that this will help eradicate run away corruption.
On her part, Karua thanked Raila Odinga for having faith in her leadership and promised to make the country even happier.
“It is a journey for and with the people of Kenya. It is a story of those who have had the courage to soldier on even against all the odds,” Karua stated.
She also thanked the running mate selection panel saying they had done a good job by raising standards for future presidential campaigns.
The event was graced by party leaders allied to the Azimio-OKA coalition and other running mate candidates among them Peter Kenneth, Sabina Chege and Peter Munya.
Earlier, media reports had placed Ms Karua ahead of all the other candidates who wanted to deputise the former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.
Odinga picked Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to be the head of Ministries in his administration if they win the August 9 general elections.
