Wednesday, August 30, 2023 – Bipartisan Committee dubbed the National Dialogue at the Bomas of Kenya has finally agreed on the main agenda of their discussions as two factions sign a document to confirm the success.
Today Wednesday August 30, Majority Leader in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah and his co-chair in the talks Kalonzo Musyoka, signed upon the final document enlisting agenda to be deliberated upon by the five aside team.
“The agenda has been set, ratified and adopted,” Hon Kimani Ichung’wah announced and shared the details on his official social platforms.
Issue topping the agenda list is the cost of living as per Article 43 of the Constitution, followed by implementation of the two-third gender policy, governance issues among them inclusivity in State appointments as well as adequate checks and balances.
The team will also have to look into electoral injustices and justices among this being reconstitution of the next group of commissioners, delimitation of boundaries and audit of the 2022 elections.
Furthermore, Ichung’wah shared that the Constituency Development Fund CDF, Affirmative Action Fund and the Senate Oversight Fund will be entrenched into the Constitution of Kenya.
Also, the groups will work on a formular to have the official office of the leader of the opposition as well as that of the Prime Cabinet Secretary PCSs.
Finally, the Ichung’wah-Kalonzo team has also agreed to discuss matters surrounding loyalty and non-interference with political parties.
These matters will now be discussed within the next 60 days with recommendations tabled in both Parliaments for legislation before the President signs them into law.
Commenting on the same, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka noted that honesty, openness and integrity remains the foundation of true dialogue at Bomas of Kenya.
“We have been able to make strides that will guide our process of negotiations in the next 59 days. Today we signed a document to guide our engagements,” he announced.
These documents are Framework Agreement to establish a structured framework for the National Dialogue and negotiations on matters relating to the Nation.
And, secondly, statement of issues for negotiation by the National Dialogue Committee which will be done in no particular order.
The announcement coming as a relief for the two sides after along standoff that threatened to crack the Bomas talks apart.
