Wednesday, February 14, 2024 -Government has officially approved digitization of the entire education system.

Sitting at the Statehouse today Wednesday February 14, the CSs led by President William Ruto agreed, all together, that going digital was the surest way of streamlining the academics in this country.

The Cabinet’s dispatch issued on Wednesday, read that the agreed digitisation is going to help eradicate fraud in school fees payment, marking of exams among other things.

For instance, the Cabinet argued that the education system has been running under due to cartels running parallel school accounts, hence overcharging parents as well as millions of State capitation funds.

Also noted was the increased enrollment of ghost students and BOM teachers in many schools

“In keeping with the Administration’s digital transformation agenda, Cabinet sanctioned the digitization of the entire education system, spanning from basic education to tertiary and university levels.

“This intervention aims to address the governance challenges within our education system that has led to parallel accounts, charging of unauthorised school fees, diversion of the exchequer releases on capitation and other fraudulent activities that undermine the integrity of the education system, leading to the enrollment of ghost students,” read the dispatch seen by the media.

In this regard, therefore, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu will, in due course, make an official pronouncements on the matter so that every school can receive a circular to force the enforcement of  the directive.

Initially, through Principal Secretary PS Belio Kipsang, only national schools were targeted by the eCitizen plan.

The guideline gave rise to a country wide protest against it with sections arguing that this was another way the State was trying to frustrate schools heads.

Parents also lamented that most of them would be disadvantaged to handle the e-Citizen platform on computers and in cybers.
