The Soweto Catholic Church in Nairobi has reportedly refunded President William Ruto’s weekend donation of Sh 2, 600,000.
The Archdiocese of Nairobi issued their statement regarding donations made by the head of State and other politicians to Soweto Catholic Church last weekend and promised to take it back sue to integrity issues.
While doing that it referenced Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) directives that discourage political donations to churches and the use of church events for political self-promotion.
In line with these directives, the Archdiocese has decided to refund donations of Sh 200,000 from the Governor of Nairobi Mr. Sakaja to the choir and Parish Missionary Council (PMC), Sh 600,000 from President Ruto to the choir and PMC and Sh 2 million from President Ruto for the construction of the Fathers’ house.
