Cattle Thieves Lynched, Burnt in Kirinyaga

Monday, November 21, 2022 –Residents of Kerugiro Village in Kirinyaga County have lynched two suspected cattle rustlers found slaughtering and packing meat in a van.

In a news items by Nation.Africa, locals who were on a dawn patrol cornered the suspects who were busy slaughtering the four cows believed to have been stolen.

The suspects had loaded part of the meat into their Toyota Probox car before irate locals busted and stopped them immediately.

It is explained that the suspects started running to different directions before they were overwhelmed and beaten to a pulp.

In the ugly melee, residents woke up in numbers and continued cutting into pieces the four men; some using machetes and rungus.

The locals accused the two men of being part of a wider network of a night gang stealing animals from the area.

They steal cows and goats, slaughter and sell them to ready markets in butchers located in different neighbouring counties including Kiambu, Murang’a and Nairobi.

When police received a tip off of the morning incident, they rushed to the scene, fired in the air but it was too late to save the victims.

Police would confirm that they already found the suspects killed and burnt to ashes.

“Police fired in the air but they could not save the suspects because the residents were very violent,” said area Chief Munene Kiura.

Their remains were collected and ferried to Kerugoya Referral Hospital Mortuary pending identification.
