Thursday, July 28, 2022 –Government has resolved outstanding issues with the Independence Electoral and Boundaries Commission, IEBC.
In a meeting they held today Thursday July 28 afternoon in Nairobi, Police department and IEBC officials resolved to start working together so that to deliver a free and verifiable election on August 9.
Speaking just moments after the meeting that lasted for two hours, Police Inspector General IG Hillary Mutyambai remarked that whatever differences that were there between the security department in the country and the IEBC had today been amicably dealt with.
On his part, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati who was also present to represent the IEBC said his commission will always engage the police ahead of elections because that is the only way there can be peace in the country during and after the elections.
“We are going to keep engaging on elections preparedness and even on the elections day we want 150,000 police officers deployed around the country,” Chabukati said.
The two parties, however, did not speak about the recent arrest of three Venezuelans at the airport and if that made part of their meeting discussion, today.
