Wednesday, September 7, 2022 –Diana Chekemoi has landed a full scholarship as well as a job at Meru University following her return back to the country from Saudi Arabia.
Nairobi-based politician Vesta Kangogo on Tuesday September 6 informed the public that the university will also be catering for her accommodation costs upto when she completes her course.
“Special thanks to Meru University who have offered a job, accommodation and a full scholarship to Diana to enable her complete her Bachelor’s Degree and live a dignified life,” Vesta Kangogo updated.
Ms Kangogo added that several Kenyans who are still suffering in the Gulf countries are stranded there; calling upon government of Kenya to help bring them back home.
“It is sad to see many youths leave and lose lives like Joan Jeruto from Nandi whose body is still stuck in Saudi Arabia.
“I have received many distress calls from others going through similar situations and stuck in Saudi and I urge the Ministry of Labour to urgently intervene to repatriate them until the necessary bilateral arrangements are put in place to protect the Rights of Kenyan workers in Foreign Countries,” she pleaded.
Chepkemoi dropped out of Meru University to fly out to Saudi Arabia for a domestic job so that to fend for her five siblings, raise school fees as well as to offset her mother’s medical bills.
During her arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport JKIA, the 24-year-old lady detailed the physical and mental torture that most Kenyans have to endure while working in the gulf countries.
