Chiloba to Shut Down Capital FM, NRG and 58 Other Stations

Wednesday, December 22, 2021 –Communication Authority of Kenya CA has threatened to shut frequencies for 60 local radio stations in the country.

Among the names listed in the circular notice signed by Director General Ezra Chiloba are big shots in communication industry like Capital FM and NRG Radio.

Chiloba stated that the move was reached following the broadcasters failure to adhere to the regulator as per the Kenya Information and Communications Act.

“Take notice that the Authority has commenced regulatory actions against the following listed broadcasters and applicants of broadcasting service provisioning licences for failure to comply with requirements,” Chiloba wrote.

In accordance with Section 46C of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, 1998, it is illegal to provide any form of broadcasting service in the country without a valid license from relevant governmnet bodies.

“Contravention of this requirement attracts a fine not exceeding Ksh1,000,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or both,” the circular continued.

Other stations on the chopping board are Kesha, Winam, Radio Amani, Kalya Fm, Gulf Radio , Qwetu Radio, Vihiga Fm and Weather – Reports Realtime.

In the list, we also have Nyanam Initiative Cbo, Warsan Fm, Mbaitu Fm, Ruben, Hero Fm, Onagi, Kong’asis, Mwariama Fm, Kegocho, Mu Fm, Mmu Fm, Mmust Fm, Syokimau Fm, Radio Sahara, Egerton, Milambo Bajona, One Fm, The Just Liveth, Main Bridge, Radio Furaha, Kisima Fm, Ku 99.9 Fm, Emuria Fm etc.

Since taking over the job a few months ago, Ezra Chiloba has been on rampage weeding out rogue players in the industry.
