Wednesday, July 19, 2023 –Clergies fetched from all Catholic Churches now want President William Ruto to repeal the Finance Act 2023 due to the skyrocketing cost of living.
Addressing on Wednesday July 19, the clergies explained that the recently signed into law Act will make life unbearable to many families when, already, the current situation is suffocating many families.
They argued that, if this Act is the bone of contention, then there is need for President William Ruto to allow it be withdrawn and reviewed by everyone afresh.
They were speaking in Karen during the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops KCCB led by Nyeri Archbishop Anthony Muheria.
Muheria lso seized the opportunity to ask the opposition led by Raila Odinga to stop demonstrations so that talks can prevail.
“The high cost of living has created a burden on individuals and families making it difficult for them to meet their basic needs and maintain a decent standard of living.
“Within this background, the recently enacted Finance Act places an unsustainable burden on already distressed citizens especially those within the low-income bracket,” he added.
On is part, Mombasa Archbishop Kivuva Musonde further called for dialogue between President William Ruto and Azimio Leader, Raila Odinga.
They want the leadership of William Ruto to repeal the Finance Act 2023 and institute a process that will achieve a sound goal that every Kenyan will be proud of.
Muheria reminded Ruto that the high cost of living was the key reason there were protests around the country and, if not well addressed, this could take a toll on his government.
Raila’s Azimio coalition has announced a three-day protest expected to end on Friday July 21, to pick on next week under same schedule.
