Friday, May 5, 2023 -New Life Church founder Pastor Ezekiel Odero was finally freed on Thursday.
The Thursday May 4 court ruling freed the controversial Coastal-based preacher with conditions.
Among the conditions given to him are, he should not discuss Shakahola massacre matters before investigations are complete. He was also asked to be reporting to the nearest Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI every week.
In its afternoon ruling of Thursday, the Shanzu Law Court ruling gave the pastor an alternative of paying sh 3 million.
“Parties will be at liberty to apply for the closure of this file once the investigations are complete,” the judge at Shanzu courts directed.
Pastor Mackenzie was arrested on the grounds that their were complains from morgue attendants that bodies with no identity were being ferried into their facilities every week.
They said, most of the bodies came from Pastor Ezekiel’s New Life Prayer Center and Church.
Authorities would, days later, also link the Shakahola massacre to both Paul Mackenzie and Ezekiel.
Ezekiel is a renowned crowd-puller evangelist whose roots are from Nyanza Region.
Televangelist Ezekiel Odero, through his lawyers Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta, had earlier admitted that 15 people had died while seeking spiritual interventions in his New Life Prayer Centre and Church, in the one year and a month it has been operational.
