Monday, July 29, 2024 ––Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party Chairman John Mbadi has announced his intentions to resign from party position amid escalated fights.

Addressing this matter today Monday July 29 while talking to the media outside the Parliament, Mbadi firmly stated that he is ready to move onto something else after nine years of good leadership in ODM Party.

He took issue with an unnamed individuals whom he claimed are fighting his stay in ODM and said they should prepare to offer themselves for the position which he described as challanging.

“Those who want to chair this party can offer themselves. Nine years are so long and a change is also good.

“I am not dying to be their chair. I have done my bit so what is their problem? They took away minority leader post from me. They can also take away chairmanship and I will still be there,” he added.

The nominated MP, therefore, said the only reason he is still hanging on as the party chairman is because he has no substantial vice who can steer on the party activities.

He said he is ready to relinquish the position in ODM and move on to something else so that fresh party leadership can come on board.

Asked whether his party leader Raila Odinga is aware of this plan, Mbadi said this is something he has shared with Raila on a personal level.

“I want to put it on record. I want to leave this position of ODM. The problem is I don’t have a vice who can take over from me. Raila is aware. I want to transition also,” he added.

The chairman was speaking this even as ODM and the entire opposition continues to face challenges following the nomination of four key figures into William Ruto administration.

Party deputies, Wycliffe Oparanya, Ali Hassan Joho, Chairman John Mbadi and Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi were recently listed as part of new look Cabinet.

This nomination quickly sparked party wrangles as other politicians announced thier intentions to take over the party positions. Among those who want to replace the leaving team are Jared Okello, Otiende Amollo and MP Babu Owino.
