Tuesday, February 15, 2022 –Deputy President William Ruto has been asked to apologize over his recent comments on the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC.
In his latest political meeting held in Nyeri County during micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) business owners convention on Monday, February 14, Ruto was heard claiming that Congo has no single animal despite having a huge population and encouraged locals to start farming livestock so that they can capitalize on the available market in Congo.

“Tuko na soko kuanzia hapa DRC, hawa watu wako 90 million na hawana hata ng’ombe moja,” DP Ruto said.
However, following the remarks, Congolese activist and Haut-Katanga Senator Francine Muyumba has asked the DP to clarify what he said through a public apology saying the remarks were untrue and disrespectful.
“Mr. Vice President William Ruto, this is really unacceptable, with all due respect there is a need to withdraw this statement If DRC did not have a single cow how could Kenya sign economic deals with DRC, EquityBCDC is currently making money in Congo, this is an insult,” Muyumba wrote.
She reminded the DP to be diplomatic with his utterances because he is seeking a higher office which requires some high-level conduct.
While reprimanding Ruto, she added that being a president requires dependence and such remarks meant the DP does not respect other nations in Africa.
She also argued that Congo has had a long cordial relationship with Kenya and that such remarks could break this bond unless Ruto agrees to withdraw and cease from making such reckless statements in future.
