Sunday, November 21, 2021 -A wave of rage ensued on Sunday November 21 when government reportedly brought down the main pavilion at the historic Uhuru Park gardens in Nairobi.
As the pavilion was being brought down, the main dais was also affected as part of the sudden demolitions by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services NMS.
Hundreds of Nairobians rushed to their social media platforms to express their dissatisfaction on the demolitions which they thought was a secrete way of getting rid of the Park.
From the comments gathered over the activity, Kenyans wondered how and why government would engage in such an environmental exercise days after the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP26 saw President Uhuru Kenyatta talk of environmental protection in his country.
But even as a section of citizens criticized the exercise as a bad one, some maintained that this was part of the positive environmental exercises which ought to take place without any interference.
“The podium is down. But works are all over the park. From outside walkways to the inside hence you can’t say that the podium was targeted,” a random user stated.
Media tried to get in contact with both the Nairobi County Government and Nairobi Metropolitan Services NMS but there was no specific response on the matter.
Several politicians also appeared to have been caught unawares by the exercise which many of them thought was political.
