Tuesday, October 3, 2023 –Council of Governors CoG has appeared before the National Dialogue Committee at the Bomas of Kenya to tender its views on Devolution.

Led by Chairperson Ann Waiguru, the council said it had to honour the invitation so that to share what it feels is not doing right in devolution and how this could be improved.

In her statement after meeting the dialogue committee, Waiguru reported that she led her team in sharing with the Committee what a fully functional devolved unit should look like.

Among other matters, the Council also wants unresolved Constitutional matters like the county funding and the two-third gender rule implemented in totality.

“We honoured the invitation by The National Dialogue Committee to share the Council of Governors views on matters devolution. We presented on fully devolving Functions as intended by the constitution, Funding counties, boundaries, 2/3rd Gender Rule, legislature alignment to devolution spirit among other critical areas,” said Waiguru.

The ongoing Bipartisan dialogue is currently listening and collecting views from stakeholders across the country so that to use in harmonizing an acceptable document that will help solve the outstanding matters in the country.

Electoral deficiencies, boundaries, devolution, cost of living, governance, political parties among many other issues make top on the list of their agenda.

Waiguru was, yesterday Monday October 2, re-elected through a consensus process to serve her second two-year term as the Council’s chairlady.

“I sincerely thank my colleagues for unanimously Re-electing me as the Chair, it is an honour to serve for a second term. I also congratulate my Vice Chair and whip,” she accepted the offer.
