Wednesday, February 15, 2023 –Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i is now required to produce CCTV contents from his Karen home on the day he alleged there was a police raid at night.
Court sitting in Nairobi made the directive requiring the former powertful State officer to avail footage from his residence to help the Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI to conclude investigations into the alleged Wednesday night raid that sent panic across the country.
The DCI recently moved to the court to compel Matiang’i’s home security to avail the clips retrieved from the cameras mounted around the compound.
The police, during their early investigations at the residence established that the home had been fitted with CCTVs and anything that took place on the night must have been captured raw.
Therefore, the security firm managing the cameras is summoned to produce the clips captured between February 8 and 9. This footage must be availed by February 22.
On that night, Matiang’i and his lawyers led by Danstan Omari claimed that a battalion of policemen had raided the home with an intention of handcuffing him into the cells.
This was, however, disputed by the Kenya Police Service KPS and a host of several other State agencies including EACC.
Inspector General of police IG Japhet Koome would also term the claims as strange to him even as Matiang’i, through his lawyers, sought anticipatory court bail to stop any arrest.
