Chrispen

Friday, May 19, 2023 –Court has given investigating agencies only 14 days to complete the investigations into conduct of Pastor Ezekiel Odero’s New Life Prayer Center and Church.

Issuing the orders on Friday May 19, Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi, ordered the Directorate of Criminal Investigation DCI to finish their probe on the church so that the matter can be ruled on.

Through his lawyers led by Danstan Omari, Ezekiel urged the court to reduce 30 days to 15. The agencies are looking into money laundering claims.

What this means is that Odero’s bank accounts will only remain locked for 14 days and not 30 days as had earlier been ruled.

Magistrate Ekhubi, however, ordered all the parties involved to appear in court on Monday, May 22, when the court will be giving more directives on the matter.

“I will direct that you come back on Monday since the orders expire on a Sunday. I will extend the orders to Monday,” the court ruled.

Pastor Ezekiel lawyers told the court that police misled them(courts) into issuing the 30 days freezing orders.

This saw Magistrate Ekhubi dismiss preliminary objection in which the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution ODPP challenged Pastor Ezekiel’s counter-application.

The Prosecution had claimed that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation DCI needed more time to review the available evidence.

Earlier, Pastor Ezekiel had asked the court to allow him withdraw only sh 50 million to use in paying swelling bills at his church in Kilifi.

His lawyers had, also, raised concerns over their unpaid services since Odero’s bank accounts had been frozen.
