Wednesday, August 16, 2023 –Police have launched a man hunt against former Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago over the recent uproar from locals who lost their hard-earned money to a scholarship scam.
The Director of Public Prosecution DPP, on Wednesday August 16, secured a warrant of arrest against Mandago who is now the current senator Uasin Gishu County.
Mr. Mandago is supposed to be arrested together with three accomplices – fellow former county officials – linked to the multimillion Finland and Canada scholarship fraud.
When parents and their children affected held a meeting with county leadership on a Monday, one victim graduate Mercy Tarus, 24, stood out to take-on the leaders, head-on.
A video of her boldly confronting Governor Jonathan Bii, his deputy John Barorot, and Senator Jackson Mandago went viral capturing the national attention.
“Anyone of you who knows anti-depressant drug? Do you know any? Take some time and do research. You invited us here only to come late and yet we have our parents here with us,” she posed.
Mandago’s arrest warrant was today issued at the Nakuru Law Court so that the politician can shed more light on the scam that left parents double poor.
Others on this list of arrest are Joseph Kipkemoi Maritim, Meshack Rono and Joshua Kipkemoi Lelei.
The aforementioned all served under Mr. Jackson Mandago who was governor of the area by then.
“There is a warrant of arrest in court. Either he presents himself at the DCI or we arrest him. There is nothing else we can say on the matter,” DCI boss Amin Mohamed confirmed to one of the local media channels.
By the time of going to the print, the politician had not reacted to this warrant but, last week, he presented self to the DCI offices after locals intensified protests in the county.
And whether he is going to honor the warrant or not; is something that this news website is going to wait and see.
Mandago served as Uasin Gishu governor for two terms and, today, he is also an elected county Senator in the same county.
He was elected on the ruling party – United Democratic Alliance UDA Party ticket.
