Tuesday, January 10, 2023 –A court sitting in Kakamega has today Tuesday January 10 nullified the election of Lugari Member of County Assembly MCA Grey Moi Amutete.
The United Democratic Party UDP elected member of County Assembly was found to have participated in irregularities that led to his victory.
According to the Star issue of Tuesday, the court cited malpractices in the August 2022 general elections and the failure of the electoral body IEBC to adhere to laid down guidelines.
His opponent in the elections, William Libombolo Makhalanya, the petitioner, had filed a petition challenging his victory and tabled enough evidence in that regard.
He argued through his court papers that the whole exercise was marred with questionable activities.
In the case, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC area returning officer had been listed as the second respondent.
United Democratic Party UDP is under Cyrus Jirongo who is the party leader and who unsuccessfully ran for Kakamega governor seat.
