Tuesday, May 23, 2023 –Political Parties Dispute Tribunal PPDT, sitting at the High Court on Tuesday, gave Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party side a temporary reprieve in the ongoing party wrangles.

The Nairobi court made an extension of orders stopping new party officials from claiming office in the former ruling party.

This means that, both Kanini Kega and Sabina Chege will have to wait a little longer to officially take charge of the troubled Jubilee Party.

In its Tuesday May 23 ruling, the court favoured embattled Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni who had asked the bench to issue temporary staying orders until the case is fully ruled on.

This then saw Chairman Desma Nungo order the applicant, Mr. Kioni, to timely  serve respondents in the case.

“Pending the hearing and determination of the Application inter partes, interim conservatory orders are hereby issued staying the decision delivered by the 1st Respondent’s National Disciplinary Committee on 10th May 2023 to expel the Complainant/Applicant from membership of the 1st Respondent.

“Pending the hearing and determination of the Application inter partes, interim conservatory orders are hereby issued prohibiting the 2nd Respondent from acting on any communication from the 1st Respondent and Interested Parties purporting to expel,” read part of the ruling.

The court ordered that Kega and Chege-led faction file their response in the next five days from the date of service.

Consequently, at the same time, all parties were ordered to appear in court on May 31, 2023, when the matter will be mentioned and further orders issued.

This was happening just hours after the Kega-Chege faction had won the case at the Political Parties Registrar  level which had confirmed the elevation of Chege as the new Jubilee Party boss and Kega as the secretary general.
