CS Kindiki Fumbles Linking Uhuru to Resurgence of Mungiki Militia

Wednesday, May 31, 2023 -Interior Cabinet Secretary CS Kithure Kindiki fumbled responding to a question on Uhuru Kenyatta’s links to resurgence of an outlawed sect around Central Kenya.

Fielding questions from various reporters while delivering the Second Public Accountability Statement for his ministry at Harambee House, the CS was challanged by Citizen Tvs Chemutai Goin to highlight how Uhuru had suddenly turned into a Mungiki militia financier.

Goinwhile posing the question, referenced that it was now a common narrative being peddled by Kindiki, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and a couple of other government officials.

“On cultural extremism, one of the issues we have seen and heard utterances made by yourself and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is that there are certain individuals that are funding the resurgence of the outlawed Mungiki sect.

“One of the persons mentioned is Uhuru. Are there links you have found on his connection with the funding of Mungiki and what are you doing about it?” Goin challenged Kindiki.

Interestingly, the Interior CS tactically seemed to avoid a direct response to the militia question.

Kindiki seemed to fumble on the matter and, in a change of tone, just said it cannot be something to comment on with finality.

“I cannot comment on that. But I want to say that anyone who is involved in encouraging crime, it does not matter their rank in society, they have a date with me and my officers,” he responded to Goin.

Uhuru Kenyatta has been made a punching bag by the William Ruto’s administration which has, not once, linked him to the ongoing anti-government rallies and demonstrations.

And lately, the former head of State has been reported to be the god father of the Maina Njenga-led defunct Mungiki sect that is synonymous with wreaking havoc, illegal collection of tax, mugging, robbing and killing of innocent citizens.
