Sunday, April 16, 2023 – Cabinet Secretary for Roads, Transport, and Public works Kipchumba Murkomen now wants civil servants to devise other ways of making extra income from side hustles.
On Sunday, April 16, the CS advised civil servants to consider taking up side hustlers like taxi business to complement their income which has not been enough to them.
Mr. Murkomen urged most of them to start investing in taxi or taxi-hailing businesses as supplementary part time jobs.
“There’s a lady civil servant forced to engage in the taxi cab business as a side hustle to supplement her income, since civil servant’s salaries started coming late.
“She leaves work at 5 pm, switches on mobile taxi apps, and only returns home after she has hit the 5,000 daily target,” one Gabriel Oguda wrote.
And replying to this, CS Murkomen who heads the transport sector noted that this was a welcome move to the industry which is growing so fast.
“This is very good news for our transport sector especially if you consider the challenges we have been facing in the ride-hailing sector, especially among the drivers,” the CS replied.
In an earlier statement made on Sunday, April 9, Murkomen had revealed that the government was unable to pay its employees in time.
The vocal State officer, though, absolved Kenya Kwanza administration over any fault for the delayed salary piling blame on the former administration especially that of Uhuru Kenyatta.
