Saturday, July 3, 2021 -Top leadership in the country continued to mourn the death of billionaire industrialist Naushad Noorali Merali terming him a gifted business magnet.
On his behalf, President Uhuru Kenyatta revealed how Merali’s business empires created thousands of job opportunities for Kenyans and this is one thing that sets him apart from other investors.
“I have received the shocking news of the passing away of Mr Merali with a heavy heart. The cruel hand of death has robbed our country of a successful entrepreneur whose investments contributed significantly to the economic stability and progress of our country.
“Mr Merali’s business acumen created thousands of direct and indirect jobs for our people and wealth that helped uplift many of our households from poverty. Alongside his celebrated business exploits, Mr Merali was a philanthropist whose generous giving earned him the ‘Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear’ state commendation,” President Kenyatta eulogised.
According to verified reports from the family, the tycoon born 1951 breathed his last on Saturday July 3 at around 4AM.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing away of Naushad Merali. A renowned and distinguished international entrepreneur, industrialist, and philanthropist. Our prayers are with Zarin, Yasmin and Sameer Merali,” Mr. Musalia Mudavadi tweeted on Saturday, July 3.
The late Merali founded Kenyans second largest Telco – Kencell and Sameer Group – a business conglomerate active in Information technology, property, Construction and finance.
Further the astute businessman- cum philanthropist chaired the Bharti Airtel operations in Kenya and who Forbes put at position 39 in the list of richest men in Africa with assets valued at over 55 billion.
