Tuesday, September 26, 2023 –Embakasi East Member of Parliament MP Babu Owino has implicated Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja in a multi-million land-grabbing fraud.

On Tuesday September 26, the lawmaker shared details on the situation along Fida Road claiming that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI had stepped in to stop ongoing construction exercise on Sakaja’s site.

In the statement from Owino, Nairobi Governor Mr. Sakaja had allegedly grabbed the public land where he is constructing a multimillion apartment for commercial purposes.

“DCI has stopped the construction of Sakaja Apartments located at the junction between Fida road and Kamiti road as investigations are still ongoing.

“The land in question is a public property meant for the construction of a hospital and has been grabbed by Sakaja. Just one year in office. Mengi bado yaja,” Babu reported.

This is not the first time, MP Babu Owino and Sakaja are clawing at each other, last week, the two were also embroiled in a bitter online spat over the ongoing school feeding programme dubbed Dishi na Kaunti.

Babu had claimed that the newly-launched county programme was facing many challenges including food poisoning claims; something that Sakaja dismissed through a long statement.

“A few people are against our feeding program for nefarious reasons. Resorting to propaganda won’t work. Using children for politics won’t work. The first phase of schools onboarded have been getting their hot meals daily and on time. All head teachers have communication to continue with their arrangements until the county communicates once the next phase begins.

“Already 80,000 children are enjoying meals at 5bob on the phased implementation,” he wrote in a counter response to Owino.

This is after someone posted a video from Tumaini Primary showing a completely different situation, altogether.

Babu who has maintained onslaught on Sakaja and his administration, in one of his posts, challenged the UDA Party governor to provide any video showing pupils enjoy meals, anywhere around Nairobi.

“Wapi video ya watoto wakikula including the Headteacher. Hizo PR zako tunajua (where are the photos to show that kids are getting means?)” Owino posed while reducing this to mere public relation stunts.

The ongoing supremacy war of words between Sakaja and Babu Owino is linked to the Nairobi politics where Owino is already jostling to oust Governor Sakaja in the next round of election to be held in 2027.

In addition to these two, the current Westlands MP,  Tim wanyonyi, has also announced his interest in the race meaning he will have to faceoff with Babu Owino in the ODM Party nominations.

Interestingly, both Raila Odinga and his wife Mama Ida, sometimes back, publicly promised to support Wanyonyi for the Nairobi gubernatorial contest.

It will, therefore, be interesting to see how the Embakasi East legislator wades through these awaiting political roadblocks.
