Tuesday, October 26, 2021 –Acting Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu has been put on the spot for tax evasion accusations.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation DCI has written to the Nairobi leader to explain the tax matter alongside two other colleagues working at the county headquarters.
On Tuesday October 26, Homenews.co,ke learnt that the two also on the DCI radar are County Finance Executive Allan Igambi and Chief officer for Finance Halkano Waqo.
In a letter seen by the media, DCI officer in-charge of KRA Unit Purity Nkiiri summoned the trio over income tax remittance queries at the county.
They are required to shed more light on the said income tax, withholding tax and PAYE against Section 97 of the Tax Procedure Act.
“In the exercise of the powers conferred to me under the provision of Section 52 (1) of the National Police Act of 2011, I do hereby summon you to appear before me,” the letter reads in part.
Anne and her team must appear before Nkiiri on Wednesday October 27 at 10:00AM at the CBC Building failure to they all risk full prosecution.
In March 2020, KRA appointed the County Government of Nairobi to be the principal revenue collector after functions had been transferred to the National Government.
