Wednesday, September 13, 2023 –In his efforts to reorganize his executive, Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa yesterday Tuesday September 13 made drastic changes at the top of county leadership.

First to be stripped of his role as Chief Executive Committee Member CECM was his deputy Ayub Savula who, however, was directed to coordinate all county ministries at the county headquarters.

These changes saw a section of the media claim that Mr. Savula had been purposely targeted in the new purge conducted by his boss Fernandes Barasa.

But in a quick response to the claims that he had been stripped of some powers in the executive, Savula on Wednesday September 13 said, he was in office to stay and that the reports doing rounds should be ignored.

He added that he is an elected leader whose position in the county government cannot be wished away through executive orders.

“I Deputy Governor of Kakamega. I vied for the position. I am settled. This position can’t be reversed in any reshuffle. I remain the principal assistant to Governor Fernandes Barasa

“Ignore rumours, reports, or any other sources that are contrary,” he remarked.

In the changes, DG Savula will now retain his position as Deputy Governor, and will further be tasked with coordinating activities in all ministries and their subsequent departments.

In the Trade, Industrialization and Tourism ministry, Governor Barasa has now nominated Zaccheaus Muya Lutomia, whose official appointment to the role is contingent upon vetting by the County Assembly.

Godfrey Awori now leaves the Education docket, and takes over as the CEC for Public Service and Administration.

Dr. Boniface Okoth, who previously held the post of County Secretary and Head of Public Service, has been designated as the CECM for Education.

Similarly, Dr. Laurence Omuhaka who served as CEC for Public Service and Administration will now take on the dual roles of County Secretary and Head of Public Service.

So far, four County Committee Members CECM have been impacted by the alterations as Barasa continues to promise more changes in days to follow.
