Tuesday, July 19, 2022 –Deputy Presidential debate to be held today Tuesday July 19 night will involve a total of four candidates from four political formations.
Among the four are Martha Karua (Azimio la Umoja One-Kenya Alliance), Rigathi Gachagua (UDA Party), Ruth Mucheru Mutua (Agano Party) and Justina Wambui (Roots Party).
This is despite that fact that last week, William Ruto’s Director of Communication hinted at a possible boycott citing imbalance in media reporting.
Fire-spitting Hussein Mohamed ranted on how all major media stations in the country are biased in their reporting; which he noted makes it hard for their team to be part of.
This, however, was changed when Ruto’s running mate Rigathi Gachagua yesterday showed up for a briefing session on rules of the game.
This was also made even clearer on the same day Monday July 18 when the head of Presidential Debate Secretariat, Clifford Machoka, confirmed that Mr. Gachagua would avail himself for the discussion.
According to the Star issue of July 19, the debate will be held in two tiers, the first starting at 5PM with candidates whose popularity rating, based on three recent opinion polls, is less than 5 percent.
It will be followed by candidates with a popularity rating above 5 per cent who will face-off from 7PM to 10PM.
The first session of the debate will see Agano party’s running mate Ruth Mutua face off with George Wajackoyah’s running mate, Justina Wamae.
Journalists Sophia Wanuna (KTN) and James Smart (NTV) will moderate the main debate while KTN’s Zubeida Kananu and Citizen ‘s Francis Gachuri will coordinate the first session scheduled at 7PM.
