Monday, August 29, 2022 –There was created a morning anxiety and confusion around Kakamega County after outgoing Governor Wycliffe Oparanya’s Facebook account urged residents to vote Malala into office.
The brief hashtag post created too much confusion as supporters of Malala praised the governor for changing his mind on the voting day.
“Vote Cleophas Wakhungu Malala,” the hashtag on the Facebook read.
But this development was quickly disowned by Mr. Oparanya who took to his Twitter handle saying his FB account had been hacked.
“This is to NOTIFY the general public that my Facebook page has been hacked by agents of doom. IGNORE any post on my Facebook page as we await @DCI_Kenya to handle the matter and restore it. Thank you,” he wrote.
He was, however, reminded by social guru Robert Alai that taking social media accounts for-granted could plunge the country into chaos.
“Oparanya …………. Days of “my account was hacked” are over. Let’s be serious.
“Hey Political Leaders, Your social media accounts are as crucial assets as your other valuables. Carelessness can not only hurt your career but it can also burn a country. Not being on the platforms is even a riskier undertaking,” Alai reacted.
Today Monday, Kakamega and Mombasa counties went into elections where they are supposed to know their new governors following a series of postponed elections.
