Wednesday, September 7, 2022 –President-elect William Ruto has finally spoken with his boss Uhuru Kenyatta over plans to hand over power to him.
Through an official statement he delivered on Wednesday September 7 noon, the outgoing DP divulged how he talked with Mr. Kenyatta for hours on how to transition power to him now that he is the elected president.
The UDA Party leader added that, among many other issues, they also discussed how the recent election went on and how the next government is going to take over from September 13 when the official swearing in exercise will complete.
“I had a telephone conversation with my boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta. We discussed the just concluded General Election and the transition as envisaged by our democratic tradition and practice,” he said.
The development is coming just days after Ruto promised to make a direct phone call to his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta.
Ruto was open to state that, for months, they had not been able to talk but it is time to reach out to each other and discuss what next for the Kenyan people.
Ruto was declared by both the independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC as well as the Kenyan Supreme Court as the validly elected president with over 7 million votes.
Both President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga – who came second – are yet to congratulate him.
