Tuesday, July 26, 2022 –Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition was hesitant releasing Martha Karua to debate Rigathi Gachagua in the deputy Presidential debate held recently.
Azimio campaign secretariat spokesman, Prof Makau Mutua, explained how they took a lot of time trying to convince Ms Karua not to attend the show but she wanted to face-off Gachagua and there is nothing else they could have done.
“We struggled with the issue of whether Karua should have gone to debate Gachagua given his(Gachagua) history and the ongoing court cases. Karua wanted to debate him as so she did.
“What we saw was someone who was not fit to share the podium with Karua,” he recounted.
He told K24 Tv on Monday July 25 morning that Gachagua, just like Ruto is going to do today Tuesday July 26 on the debate, spent most of his time breaking debating rules with a deliberate intention of attacking the head of State who was not there to defend himself.
Gachagua’s focus on Uhuru rather than the real issues and his uncontrolled appetite to rubbish the Handshake has therefore made it difficult for Raila to share the same platform with UDA’s William Ruto.
“We are not sure whether he had an earpiece and was being instructed on what to say. He was not there to debate Karua but talk about Uhuru,” Mutua observed.
Raila has instead chosen to have a parallel Town Hall event today in the evening scheduled to take place at Jericho.
