Wednesday, October 4, 2023 –Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has returned on Twitter years after ditching the platform, citing personal reasons.
On Tuesday October 3, the former head of State resurfaced @uhurukenyatta handle with a barrage of tweets trying to explain why he had left the popular social media platform, last year.
“The reason why I opened this account was to interact with some leaders globally and my people back home in Kenya,” he wrote.
Uhuru’s absence from the limelight
He also used the opportunity to argue that, his absence from the limelight, of recent, was informed by the fact that his family required some calm away from Kenya’s contaminated political environment and that is the reason he flew them out to the United Kingdom UK.
“I have never had a good family time as I wanted, Do not say I have run away, I need to rest and they need me.
“It is important for everyone to create time for their families out of their busy schedules because It is where everyone goes after working and exhausting their fruitful years and therefore needs to ensure things are running well at home,” Mr. Kenyatta added.
Uhuru and family are currently taking a break in the UK where it is still not yet clear when they will be back.
Before leaving Kenya, he was at the center of political storm with Kenya Kwanza-allied MPs together with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua linking him to Azimio la Umoja anti-State protests.
Attacks from Kenya Kwanza
They claimed that Mr. Kenyatta was using his financial muscles to fund the chaos that saw thousands of opposition supporters pour on nairobi streets two times a week under the express command of Raila Odinga.
Odinga had vowed to push for governance reforms before President William Ruto heeded and committed himself to the dialogue exercise.
And today, the two – Odinga and Ruto – formed a 10 member committee dubbed the National Dialogue Committee NADC to look into their differences with an aim of resolving this amicably.
Among other things, the team is looking into electoral malpractices, cost of living, political parties interference. Constitution of new IEBC, office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and official office of opposition leader.
