Thursday, April 27, 2023 –Televangelist Ezekiel Odero of New Life Prayer Centre and Church has been arrested over alleged deaths in his church at Mavueni in Kilifi.
Regional Commissioner Rhodha Onyancha has confirmed the arrest saying the televangelist will be processed by law and, if found culpable, charged and convicted.
On arresting him, the police promised to interrogate the man of cloth after shutting down his multimillion mega church.
His Thursday April 27 arrest was linked to allegations of indoctrination of the public who flock his place of worship.
This arrest is coming just a day after he was grilled for hours over claims his church is also involved in occultism.
The crowd-pulling pastor, on Saturday, December 10, 2022, pulled back the curtain allowing the media into the sprawling 65-acre property owned by his church New Life Church.
He would tell NTv that the multi-million investment in Mavueni, Kilifi County, was set to become a self-sufficient neighbourhood with several social amenities including a helipad.
True to the very word that he preaches, the man of cloth used 10 per cent of the land to construct a mega-church.
“The church sits on six and a half acres of land and has a capacity of over 6,000 people – each sitting on plastic chairs,” Odero told NTV.
And his Thursday April 27 arrest follows that of his counterpart Pastor Paul Mackenzie who is now cooling his heels inside police cells for charges related to murder of his worshipers.
Mackenzie asks church faithful to fast until they drop and the police have since located over 90 bodies from the vast Shakahola Forest.
