Monday, February 10, 2022 –The late Kabete Member of Parliament George Muchai had named certain individuals plotting to eliminate him.
In a video doing rounds on social media, among those named by the late Muchai is Central Organization of Trade Union COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli.
The clip released on Twitter by Human Rights Activist Boniface Mwangi has Muchai lamenting that his life was in danger but no one appeared to take him serious.
“It’s by the grace of God that I am alive today,” he was heard saying as he explained how a local tabloid had been used by his enemies to paint a picture of a man who could lose life because of having an affair with someone’s(police officer) wife.
While displaying open premonitions of his own death, the slain lawmaker stated that The Citizen Weekly tabloid had made malicious reports linking him to a love triangle in order to throw police off the scent in an effort to divert attention from the true story.
In the undated video, he claimed to be on the radar of assassins who had been hired to silence him after he had filed a case in the High Court seeking to audit COTU books of account. He had also established that Atwoli had over 10 more private accounts with various banking institutions.
Mr. Atwoli, however, has continued to downplay the claims saying anyone with evidence that he played any role in that heartless act of assassination can produce it in court.
“As I said at the time then, in my community if you have a family you can’t plan and execute evil or kill, but whoever holds the truth you are free to release for justice as opposed to propaganda,” Atwoli stated while distancing himself from the heinous act.
The late Muchai was murdered in February 2015 in the middle of a Nairobi road. During the murder, his two bodyguards and a driver were also executed by the masked killers.
